“Hey baby, are you up?” Dan softly whispered as he walked into the dimly lit bedroom on his tip toes. You appeared to be asleep on your side of the bed, cuddled up in the sheets except for your left foot which was peeking out of the covers. It made him chuckle, you looked so peaceful and serene to him. He took his shirt and jeans off quietly and pulled on his pyjama pants, the super soft black plaid ones you had given him for christmas last year. He cautiously made his way into his side of the bed, turning off the small night light that you’d left on for him on his side. He turned to look at you once his eyes had adjusted to the dark, the only light being the city lights that vaguely shone through the curtains. With a smile on his face he stroked a lost strand of hair out of your face and planted it behind your ear, his thumb lightly caressing your cheek. To him you were most beautiful like this, when it was just the two of you and you were both at ease. He knew that if the world would let him, he would stay like this for hours and hours, just laying beside you and making sure you were as comfortable as could be. “I love you.” The words escaped his lips without him even realizing it, it was all he could think of at this moment. “I love you so much.” He added, as if he’d never get another chance to tell you again. He told you everyday, but the words had never lost their meaning, as you knew they were true every time he said it.

This time was no different. You’d heard him, from the moment he walked into the room. You’d been tired and had not wanted to go through the effort of actually waking up and opening your eyes, so you’d stayed silent, convinced you’d drift back off to sleep in seconds. But you hadn’t yet, and you could hear him whisper to you, and unconsciously it made you smile. That he would feel the need to say it even when there was no one around to hear it made you feel more loved than ever before, and you decided to cuddle up to him. Keeping your eyes closed, you pushed your head onto his shoulder, which made him turn on his back so you could make yourself comfortable. A smile on his face reappeared as he lifted his hand to softly stroke your hair, pressing a kiss to your head. He sensed that you were awake, or at least awake enough to hear him speak. “You are the most beautiful girl in the world, inside and out, and I am the luckiest man alive to be with you every day.” He whispered to you, pressing another soft kiss on your hair. “And I suspect you can hear me so I think we should both get some sleep right now, it’s late.” He added, which made the both of you chuckle slightly, closing his eyes and slowly drifting off to sleep.
